Watermelons are extremely limited. Demand exceeds the supply; price is up, and quality is fair.  Southern México’s production has been impacted by severe weather and not enough production out of Central America to fill the void. Expect prices to stay high for at least 3-4 weeks until Northern Mexico and South Florida begin their season.
Out of all the leafy items romaine, romaine heart, & green leaf, iceberg has been the most affected with availability.  The iceberg lettuce demand continues to exceed supplies. Prices continue to increase; quality is fair and starting to see smaller heads in the boxes. This has also impacted the shredded lettuce causing a price increase as well.

All leafy items: Romaine, Romaine Heart, Iceberg, green leaf, & Red leaf, are up on price. The demand for these commodities exceeds the availability. Quality is fair, with discoloration, brown butts, and possible decay. All the rain from the past two weeks flooded the growing regions Yuma, Az and Coachella, Ca and still about a month before we transition to Central and Norther California (Salinas, Santa Maria, Huron, & Oxnard).

Colored bell peppers( red & yellow) are supper active and up on price. Sinaloa, Mexico is finishing up and we will be transitioning to Sonora, Mexico. Canada isn’t expected to start their pepper season until April so we might hit a gap between growing regions.

On the bright side, all tomatoes (cherry, grape, roma, 2-layer round, &etc.) are down on price. There is plenty of product available now and prices should start dropping even more.
