KENNEBEC POTATOES: Kennebec potatoes remain in very short supply, with limited quantities available. New-crop harvests from Texas began this week; however, demand continues to exceed supply. Market conditions are expected to remain tight for the next 2–3 weeks before availability improves. • Lettuce:

Iceberg lettuce is experiencing an extreme supply shortage and is expected to remain that way for the coming weeks.  Quality issues, specifically Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus (INSV),  Sclerotinia, and insect pressure caused by recent weather conditions, are reducing supplies.  Pricing will be volatile and high for the next few weeks or until better quality and sizing becomes available.

• Romaine/Hearts:

Both red and green leaf varieties are facing a supply shortage. This is primarily due to the recent iceberg lettuce shortage, which has led to increased demand for romaine lettuce. Quality issues have been impacted by a combination of soil-borne disease, INSV, mildew, and leaf damage caused by insect pressure. As a result, we expect tight supplies for the next couple of weeks. In contrast, green and red leaf lettuce supplies remain relatively light, but demand is strong. 

• Avocados:

• INSV (Impatiens Necrotic Spot Virus) is currently impacting romaine and romaine heart supplies in the Salinas Valley. This field condition can cause internal browning or bronzing, necrotic (dead) spots on leaves and ribs, stunting and poor head development, and premature breakdown during transit or storage. The demand exceeds the supply, keeping prices elevated. 
• Bell pepper prices are rising across all colors (red, green, yellow). Production in Mexico and Nogales is winding down, while California production is only beginning to ramp up. The market is expected to remain elevated until California reaches full production.
• Lime prices are rising again as the new crop is producing smaller-sized fruit, limiting the availability of larger limes. Tight supplies of large fruit are continuing to put upward pressure on the market and driving the price up.
• Tomato prices are declining as supply conditions improve, and demand weakens. Increased production from Florida and Central Mexico, along with the start of the Baja season, is boosting overall availability in the market.

White corn pricing is currently high due to strong demand and limited supply, as yellow corn is still not available. This has increased pressure on the market. New yellow corn from California is expected to be available later this week.  Pricing will remain high until the California production is in full swing.
