Corn: Holiday demand has tightened supplies, keeping pricing strong. High temperatures have accelerated California production, potentially creating a gap between fields. We may source from Oregon and other out-of-state suppliers to fill the void
Strawberry demand remains strong, pushing markets higher as supplies continue to tighten in the Salinas/Watsonville growing regions. The recent heat wave is adding further pressure to production, with potential impacts on both yields and fruit quality. Meanwhile, the Santa Maria/Oxnard fall harvest remains several weeks away, weather permitting. This includes stem berries. Asparagus: Prices remain elevated as supplies stay limited in both Mexico and Peru. Quality is ranging from fair to average, with sizing continuing to be the primary challenge. Larger sizes, in particular, remain difficult to source consistently. Pineapple: Supplies are expected to tighten throughout the remainder of the month, with limited open-market availability and prices continuing to stay firm. Most available fruit will be allocated to contract orders first (retailers mainly). Costa Rica is entering a seasonal production gap, while Mexico is expected to help fill the supply void in the interim Cilantro: Demand remains active, with prices continuing to trend higher. Oxnard is still experiencing production challenges, particularly with product not holding well, creating additional pressure on available supplies. Santa Maria is being relied upon to help fill the gap and maintain market coverage. Green Cabbage: Markets remain elevated as supplies tighten due to weather challenges and diamondback moth pressure, which are impacting quality and yields. Steady demand continues to support higher prices. Cauliflower: Supplies are extremely limited, with prices continuing to rise. Significant insect and worm pressure in the Santa Maria and Salinas growing areas is impacting quality and reducing the availability of good-quality product.
