Basil is extremely limited. Mexico’s production is very low due to the cold weather they are experiencing. Also, no local (California) basil available either. Price is up.

Offshore cantaloupes are extremely limited. The demand exceeds the supply, lower yields out of Central America (Guatemala) due the weather, and ongoing port delays has impacted the price. The price is up significantly. Honeydews are also limited. Mexico does not have enough supply to full fill the demand due to the cold weather. Price is up as well. On a positive note, there are more and more ripe avocados available. It will still take about a week or so before the market stabilizes, and prices decrease. Plenty of watermelons available out of Mexico and lack of demand is driving the price down. These could be a good substitute until the cantaloupe/honeydew supply gets better. The AVOCADO market has ELEVATED across all SIZES and is VERY CRITICAL. Due to the holidays, there was a lack of harvesting which impacted supply availability. The demand is extremely high with allocations occurring across the industry. Mexico has resumed their normal harvesting, but it will take another week or so before the market stabilizes. |
